External Funding
It is not always enough to build good housing, maintain it properly and deliver good services to local residents. Landlords also need to work in partnership with residents to develop lasting solutions to the problems they face as both individuals and a community.
Opportunities to modify the design of an estate may arise due to the need to:
- Improve lighting and road layouts to minimize joy riding and other anti-social activities
- Introduce features to improve energy use and reduce fuel bills
- Provide a community centre with a worker who can organize local projects including a nursery or crèche, better health initiatives and 'Hang Out' areas for teenagers
- Provide allotments, recycling and composting facilities within an estate
- Give residents the opportunity to learn a range of skills such as parenting, cookery, IT etc.
Platow Associates can offer:
- Assistance with the development of projects from raw ideas to planned and costed projects
- Capacity building to enhance skills in the funding application process
- Assistance with making links to local partnerships (e.g. Sure Start) which can lead to securing additional services for residents from statutory sources
- Identifying appropriate external funding sources for community investment — Community Fund, government departments, European funding, charitable trusts and private individuals
